  1. Hi Hilda,

Today as I was clearing out a room and transporting things to our cold cellar area, I realized that the cold cellar is in need of some major help!!! It is packed full of miscellaneous stuff from our move a yr ago and I feel overwhelmed when I open that door!! Any suggestions? Thanks. An overwhelmed wannabe-organized home educator.

    1. Hi "Overwhelmed wannabe-organized home educator"!

I'd love to help you out. It sounds like the cold cellar has become the place you put things that don't have a "home" anywhere else and that can definitely get overwhelming. It may need some purging (if there's items you haven't used since you moved!) or relocating some items to more useful places. That should help it become less overwhelming when you open the door :) I can give you some tips on how to tackle that.

Can you email me a picture or 2 of the cold cellar(organizerhilda@gmail.com) and describe a bit about what your vision for the cold cellar is? With a bit of info I can hopefully help more.

Looking forward to helping you move from overwhelmed to organized!

      Hilda

  2. I'm so happy and grateful that I've found this Blog Hilda! Your posts will be very helpful to me. We've just recently moved into a house with a large number of rooms, and I would like to devise a way to keep on top of it all!
I'm looking for an effective cleaning plan which will deal with a seven-bedroomed home without overwhelming me.
Hope to hear from you soon!

    1. Hi Coffeemate! Wow...that's a big house! I think the best thing is to set up a cleaning schedule that works with your available time and takes into consideration how clean you really want your house (e.g. do you like certain things cleaned every day, week, month, etc.) as well as who else can help you clean it. You might find the e-book "Pulling Yourself Together: Implementing a Cleaning Routine That Sticks" by Clean Mama helpful. Here's the link:

  3. Hello,
First I want to say that your blog is great. What caught my eye was the title itself. I am literally overwhelmed with trying to organize my house. The reason being is I have ADD and just can't seem to make headway. This has been an ongoing pattern for years. With that said I was wondering if you ever considered something similar to a "31 day challenge", but for people with ADD/ADHD. Just an idea..because having the whole project being spread out to smaller projects is still to much. I need the smaller projects broken down to mini projects. :)

    1. Hi Jenn! Organizing is overwhelming for a lot of people, but I know it's even tougher for those with ADD/ADHD. I'm not a specialist in that area but I'll do my best to keep things as "mini" as possible!

I think as long as you keep taking off bite-sized bits (whatever size you're comfortable with!) for any organizing project/task. Then at least you're making progress rather than letting things become more overwhelming. And it will help motivate you to keep going.

Feel free to email me with any specific things you'd like help with!

  4. Great idea ...storing leftover paint in jars but you should advise your followers that if clear jars are used they should be stored in a dark place. Over time the light will alter the paint color!
